How long X takes to act on an impersonation report
X doesn't publish a response time for impersonation reports. What drives the wait, what we see in practice, and how to get a report acted on sooner.

ChainPatrol
X doesn't publish a response time for impersonation or trademark reports. Complete reports through the right route are often acted on within days; incomplete ones can sit much longer or be closed without action.
Here's what drives the wait and what you can control. For timing across every platform, see our takedown timelines.
What X says it does
X says it investigates each impersonation report and that accounts found in violation are either suspended or asked to update their profile. It sets no deadline, and it doesn't commit to telling you the outcome.
What makes the wait longer
Wrong route. Brand misuse belongs in a trademark complaint, according to X. An impersonation report alone can stall. See how to report business impersonation on X.
Missing authorization. Reports without proof you represent the company tend to be set aside.
Unclear deception. A similar name isn't enough. Show the post or DM where the account claims to be you.
The account changes. Fakes often edit their name or bio after a report, which can lead X to close it.
Parody labels. A fake that adds "parody" or "fan" to its profile may be allowed to stay, even though its behavior hasn't changed.
What you can do to speed it up
File both an impersonation report and a trademark complaint when your name or logo is used.
Include dated screenshots of the deceptive posts or DMs, not just the profile.
Link your official account and a page on your website listing it.
Re-file with new evidence if nothing happens after a week, and if the fake changes its profile.
Block the link it sends people to, so customers are protected while you wait.
How we report it
We don't promise a fixed X takedown time, because X doesn't. We report every case monthly with its filing date and status, so you can see exactly how long each one took and which ones are still open. See a sample monthly report.
Frequently asked questions
Does X tell you when it removes an account?
Not reliably. Check the account yourself after filing.
Is a trademark complaint faster than an impersonation report?
They're reviewed separately and X doesn't publish times for either. Filing both, with complete evidence, gives you the best chance.
